The Batanes General Hospital (BGH) joins the nationwide Annual Hospital Week Celebration on August 11-14, 2020 with the theme, “Hospitals as Champions in People Centered Care in the Fight against COVID-19”.  The celebration aims to promote awareness on the health programs and social roles of hospital in partnership with other sectors and the community in maintaining a healthy citizenry especially during this time of pandemic.

This year marks a different and challenging festivity as strict protocols have been imposed by the Government and were needed to be followed due to the threat of COVID19, yet, as genuine health employees the activity went on in pursue of its objective.

A thanksgiving mass was offered to start off the celebration and different campaign activities were held after, namely BIDA Solusyon sa COVID19 Campaign Roll Out, Clean and Green Campaign, and the BGH Cares Program.

Employees were divided into four teams with Team Managers and these activities were executed in the different municipality assignments; Basco, Mahatao, Ivana, and Uyugan respectively.

The BIDA Solusyon sa COVID19 Campaign Roll-Out identified individuals in the community who were visited by the different teams to provide health teachings/demonstration, and posting and distribution of campaign flyers. BIDA, which stands for: Bawal walang mask, Isanitize ang mga kamay, Dumistansya ng isang metro, Alamin ang totoong impormasyon was emphasized in the campaign.

Another highlight of the celebration was the Clean and Green Campaign wherein tree planting and coastal clean-up were held in Mahatao and Uyugan to help provide a cleaner and greener surrounding for the community.

On the act of the BGH Cares Program, chosen beneficiaries by the local government unit of each municipality were handed food packages and health kits accompanied by lectures to advocate proper hygiene and healthy lifestyle.

Local sectors and health units in the different municipalities have shown active participation and collaboration on the said annual festivity.

Posted video presentations from the campaign of each team have caught the attention of the social media with a total of 5,000 views and 27,000 shares taking over the expected digits.

This year’s hospital week celebration may have been different, yet the impact in the community is significant in promoting a healthy environment for the Ivatans and in advocating against the threat of the COVID19.
